Ethics is one of the cornerstones of a modern human society built on the principles of democracy, freedom, and respect for human rights. Even though the need for ethics in business is still relatively little talked about, without adherence to basic ethical principles it would not be possible to keep any human effort, business including. Ethical behaviour is, in the true sense of the word, a superstructure of compliance with the law, because it is based on voluntariness and the moral superstructure of the individual, but it has become a certain norm and an acceptable limit that is not socially permissible to exceed. The need to maintain ethics arises in business as often as in everyday personal life. Every single decision or expression of attitude requires navigating an ethical compass. In the current period of turbulent change and social crises, this compass is even more important. The two-year-old crisis associated with the COVID-19 pandemic is forcing us all to adapt to new standards of ethics. Socially acceptable boundaries have changed, and there is a need for greater social distance and an emphasis on prevention and health protection. The basic framework of the rules in relation to pandemic measures was enshrined in law or another regulation, but their practical application and implementation of related activities were often left to the morale of individuals. In this context, especially in companies, the need arose to enshrine the rule formally and to define publicly its attitude towards the desired behaviour of employees. The Code of Ethics has often become an instrument of this expression in companies. The importance of Codes of Ethics thus increased during the pandemic and companies and their employees began to pay more attention to them. In many cases, they have become a living part of the business, not just a formal never-used document. This scientific monograph maps various aspects of Codes of Ethics in Slovak companies. It provides an overview of their content, formal processing, use, and focus to describe this yet unexplored area and use the results in the education of future and current managers.
