Pochvala jako vnější motivace učení je pojímána jako stav, kdy se posluchač učí nikoli z vlastního zájmu, ale z vnějšího podnětu (pochvaly). Vnější motivace v učení má nižší hodnotu než motivace vnitřní, kdy se jedinec učí pro vlastní uspokojení, pro vlastní zážitek. Avšak navzdory vyšší hodnotě vnitřní motivace nemůžeme neuznávat v řízeném učení ani motivaci vnější. Tu má ve škole či ve vzdělávacích institucích v rukou učitel, lektor, tedy ten, kdo učení řídí.

Praise as external motivation of learning is understood as a situation where the student learns not from self-interest, but from an external stimulus (praise). Extrinsic motivation in learning has a lower value than internal motivation when the individual learns for his own satisfaction and for their own experience. However, despite the higher value of intrinsic motivation can not to recognize in a controlled learning or external motivation.
