Základem pro vymezení PMO prostřednictvím této specializované mapy je vlastní vytvořený kompozitní indikátor s názvem „Míra integrace“ (dále také MI). Tento indikátor je stanoven na úrovni jednotlivých obcí. Hodnota indikátorů se může pohybovat v rozmezí 0 až 100, přičemž základní hranicí po zahrnutí obce do PMO je hodnota 50. Vazby a vymezení integrity území je však natolik složitý proces, že jej nelze založit pouze na této číselné hranici, ale musí být do rozhodnutí zahrnuty další náležitosti, ovlivňující nejen integritu území, ale také vztah k účelu, ke kterému má tato mapa sloužit. Odborná diskuze k finálnímu vymezení je součásti doprovodné zprávy k výsledku.

Mapa je výsledkem nového přístupu k vymezení metropolitní oblasti prostřednictvím sady indikátorů sjednocené do souhrnného indexu, nazvaného „Míra integrace“. U integračních vazeb obcí do území metropolitní oblasti jsou kromě klasických parametrů (např. dojížďky za prací) zahrnuty také ekonomické a sociální vazby v území včetně subjektivních postojů samospráv obcí, které jsou základem pro rozvoj meziobecní (a metropolitní) spolupráce. Výsledkem vymezení není pouze Pražská metropolitní oblast jako celek, ale také stanovení míry integrace na úrovni jednotlivých obcí, což přináší mnohem detailnější informace o jejich začlenění do vymezeného území PMO. Využití specializované mapy spočívá v souladu se zadáním výzkumného projektu především ve funkci podkladu mapujícího vazby v území, který bude využit při aktivitách směřujících k posilování metropolitní spolupráce v pražsko-středočeském prostoru a její institucionalizaci. Mapa však může být využita odbornou veřejností a zástupci obcí či jejich skupin pro celou řadu jiných aktivit zaměřených především na rozvojové aktivity a spolupráci ve vymezeném území.

The map is the result of a new approach to defining a metropolitan area through a set of indicators unified into an aggregate index called "Integration Rate". For the integration links of municipalities into the metropolitan area, in addition to the classical parameters (e.g. commuting), economic and social links in the area are also included, including the subjective attitudes of municipal governments, which are the basis for the development of inter-municipal (and metropolitan) cooperation. The result of the delineation is not only the Prague Metropolitan Area as a whole, but also the determination of the degree of integration at the level of individual municipalities, which provides much more detailed information about their integration into the delineated PMO area. The use of the specialised map, in accordance with the assignment of the research project, consists primarily in the function of a basis mapping the links in the territory, which will be used in activities aimed at strengthening metropolitan cooperation in the Prague-Central Bohemia area and its institutionalisation. However, the map can be used by the professional public and representatives of municipalities or their groups for a number of other activities aimed primarily at development activities and cooperation in the defined area.
