The possible inter-connection between weather and criminal activities has been studied in modern times for almost 200 years. The former speculation is increasingly being replaced by the language of numbers, as certain spaces for uncertainty still exist. Weather is seen as one aspect of the physical environment that can have a major influence on human behavior. At the same time, this is an aspect that is grateful from the point of view of popularizing science, or interesting for the wider public.
